Planting Thyme
Thyme should not be grown from seed, as the success rate is low and plants are very slow to grow. Instead, grow from seedlings or propagated cuttings. Thyme prefers well-draining sandy soil rich in organic matter, and thrives in full sun. In colder climate regions, thyme should be planted in containers so it can be brought indoors over winter.
Growing Thyme
Thyme loves dry soil, and plants grown in the ground don't require frequent watering after the first week or two of being transplanted. In colder climate regions, rosemary may benefit from a low-nitrogen fertiliser after planting. Harvesting established sprigs will encourage continued growth.
Harvesting Thyme
Snip off older, outer thyme sprigs as needed. Use leaves fresh, or bundle multiple sprigs together with string and hang in a warm, dry area. Once leaves begin to fall off, remove the dried leaves into a bag by rubbing the stems.
