Planting Mint
Mint sets out runners and underground rhizomes in an attempt to spread; it is strongly recommended to grow mint in containers to prevent it taking over your garden. Mint can be grown from seeds, but will grow much faster from a seedling or cutting of a mature plant.
If growing from seed, plant seeds 0.5cm (1/4") deep, with 25cm (10") between plants and 45cm (18") between rows. Mint prefers well-draining soil rich in organic matter, and thrives in full sun or partial shade.
Growing Mint
Mint requires very little care to thrive; keep the soil moist but not damp, and use mulch to help prevent evaporation if necessary.
Harvesting Mint
Pick leaves as you need them, as this will encourage further plant growth. Leaves are most flavourful right before flowering, and the entire plant can be harvested at once by cutting it 2cm (1") above the soil. The plant will regrow, and you'll get another harvest from it later in the season.
